115 Beech Road
This is the sort of history we'll be doing
- a documentation of every building on Beech Road. The thatch
cottages went at the turn of the century and were replaced by
imposing brick and slate buildings with cellars and attics. Now
occupied by an interesting shop called Hurricane. This picture
was taken around 1982 by Tim Fisher when it was a second hand
shop. The cookers and other old tat sits outside as a magnet for
passing trade. At the turn of the 19th Century this shop was a
tobacconist, and it has had many uses since. Once we've waded
through the old street directories in Salford Local History
Library (the original books, not microfiche, so no eye strain)
the full details will be told.
Note the stone gatepost and alley way to the right of the shop. There used to be a gate attached and the passage led to several small cottages called 'Summer Cottages'. These were demolished in the 1970's.
