Chorlton Ees.
Ees means a low lying water
meadow, one liable to flooding. Pronounced eezz as in easy, but those of
you with a South East Englander accent should have no difficulty strangling
the word. Before they raised the banks of the River Mersey this area was
the flood plain and flooded on a regular basis. Quick geography lesson
- the River Mersey starts in Stockport, Cheshire and passes through this
picture towards Stretford, Runcorn, Warrington and other towns before going
into the Irish Sea at Liverpool.
